WTAPS VANS SYNDICATE 2008
In 2005, SYNDICATE started as a hardcore line of VANS shoes for skaters. Skaters from the past, as well as creators that were influenced by these skaters and the skate culture, joined with graphics and collaboration. It is a project based on the classic models arranging graphics and materials.
WTAPS related fully to the concept and the SYNDICATE way and from the beginning of 2006 collaboration items based on the classic models
laced with WTAPS graphics were released. These items were not limited only to shoes; and up to now there have been hoodies, T-shirts, and a ‘Necktie + Shirt’ set released.
This time around, the collaboration is not based on the previous style of graphics on a classic VANS model, but the characteristic design started from the mold creating a completely new WTAPS model. The planned lineup includes 3 colorways of 3 models: ‘RUDEEZ’, ‘GREASERZ’, and ‘BASH’. Each model’s design shows the influence and reflects the era and culture based on.
‘Old school’ styling built wide with a low upper based on what was seen a lot in the 1970s. The toe cap is given flames with the word ‘RISE’. The image is of the shoes worn by blue collars and delinquents of this era.
This model was inspired based on ‘the black culture’ seen in 1980s ‘hip hop’, basketball, and Spike Lee movies. The words ‘RISE ABOVE’ are on the heel. The basketball shoes that were very popular during these times are the image of this model.
